Dev Log #1 – Welcome to Hamsterdamm

Hey everyone from Nerdy Bear Studios, and we are thrilled to finally introduce you to our passion project: Hamsterdamm – a colorful, chaotic detective noir first-person shooter that's been living rent-free in my brain for way too long.

🎮 What is Hamsterdamm?

At its core, Hamsterdamm is a hybrid detective FPS inspired by the energy of classic noir stories and the absurdity of cartoons of old. You’ll play as Detective Fatback and his partner-slash-fiance Detective Colla-greens, navigating the gritty-yet-wacky streets of a 1950s-style Amsterdam populated by shady animal characters, corrupt bosses, and jazz-fueled chaos.

The game blends:

• Cartoonish FPS gunplay

• Dialogue-driven interrogations

• Clue collection & puzzle-solving

• Stylized environments that feel alive and bursting with noir flair

This first multiplayer level sets the tone for a much bigger narrative and mechanical journey

Dev Life

This game is being built in Unity by NBS — just one dev team with a dream, a pile of notebooks full of ideas, and way too many tabs open.  I’m tackling everything from design to code to art direction, while working on building out 10 fully themed levels, each with its own vibe, boss, and soundtrack shift.

This devlog is the start of something bigger—I'll be using this space to share behind-the-scenes looks, concept art, playable builds, and any ridiculous bugs I run into along the way. (You haven’t lived until a suspect NPC clips through a crime scene while yelling jazz slang.)

📅 What’s Next?

Right now, I’m focused on polishing up the Hamsterdamm demo and getting some feedback. I'm aiming to release a playable vertical slice soon—so if you're into noir stories, over-the-top action, and talking animals with attitude, stick around!
